1.
Describe the "points of pain" in your work on the third piece of paper--and be as honest as possible. What are the areas in your work life that make it so difficult in today's environment? List each area of work with which you struggle. This might include how you feel about: * Poor market performance * Continuing economic uncertainty * How to make clients happy
This evaluation will help you gain perspective on where you are today. When this is done, move on to the second question.
2. Where do I want to be in the future? Dreams are a fabulous gift. How many great achievements have come from people willing to dream big and push past the ordinary?
Today is the day to write down some fresh goals. It should seem obvious that the future is coming, tomorrow will be here, so will next month and next year. You might as well create a dream for what you want your future to look like. And, the more clearly you can articulate that vision, the more likely you will be to achieve those goals.
You will want to write out your goals in the present tense. Then follow each goal with specific action steps.
An example of a work goal might be:
Goal: Our team increases net new assets by 5 million dollars in the next 90 days.
Action 1: We update our team introduction letter and marketing pieces within the next week. Action 2: We create a targeted list of 60 high-net-worth prospects. Action 3: We call one of these prospects every work day for the next three months. Action 4: Our team hosts one educational public workshop per month. Action 5: Our team remains actively involved in the community, and as we meet people we ask them to do business with us.
